New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has implemented a mandatory burn ban for all of New York City, Long Island, Westchester County, Putnam County, Rockland County, Orange County, Ulster County and Dutchess County due to a high fire danger risk.
The outdoor burn ban normally begins on March 16th, 2025, but with the extremely dry conditions Governor Kathy Hochul signed an executive order to begin the burn ban early. The burn ban is in effect from now until May 14, 2025. According to the ban issued in Hochul's news release Sunday, uncontained campfires and open fires used for cooking, are also prohibited.
