On Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 6:23am, the Hughsonville Fire Department, along with New Hackensack Fire Department (Rescue 52-55) and Town of Wappinger EMS were dispatched to Route 9 and Myers Corners Road for a reported SUV versus motorcycle auto accident, with a report of a victim pinned under a vehicle. Chief of Department Paul Rogers and Town of Wappinger EMS paramedics arrived on scene and confirmed a patient was entrapped under the SUV and requested a medevac helicopter, due to the mechanism and seriousness of the injuries. Firefighters from Hughsonville and New Hackensack worked together to stabilize and lift the vehicle off the victim and turned care over to Town of Wappinger EMS. The patient was removed from under the vehicle within 7 minutes from the arrival of Hughsonville (Engine 45-11) and New Hackensack FD (Rescue 52-55) personnel.

Route 9 was closed in both directions as Hughsonville FD (Ladder 45-46) established a medevac landing zone within the southbound lanes of Route 9, in front of the Wappinger Plaza, just north of the accident scene. Upon the arrival of Life Net 2, patient care was transitioned to the flight team, which departed to Westchester Medical Center at 7:21am. The northbound lanes of Route 9 were closed for approximately 3 hours as the New York State Police conducted an accident investigation.

Hughsonville Fire Chief Paul Rogers, Jr. said, “My thanks to our partner agencies for their quick response and assistance at this critical situation. We regularly train with our mutual aid partners for incidents of all types, and today’s seamless operation was a testament to that training.”

The Hughsonville Fire Department responded with 45-1 (Chief), 45-2 (Asst. Chief), 45-11 (Engine), and 45-46 (Ladder). New Hackensack responded with 52-1 (Chief), 52-55 (Rescue), and 52-61 (Utility). The HFD was also assisted on scene by multiple Town of Wappingers EMS paramedics, New York State Police and the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, as well as Life Net Air 2.
