On Tuesday, October 3 at 1:28pm, the Hughsonville Fire Department and Town of Wappinger EMS were dispatched to a reported serious motorcycle accident on Route 9, between South Fowlerhouse Road and MacFarlane Road, in the Town of Wappinger. While units were responding, the Dutchess County 911 Center reported that multiple 911 calls were received reporting serious injuries.
The first Hughsonville FD personnel arrived on scene within 2 minutes of dispatch to find a motorcyclist down in the roadway not moving with civilians providing first aid. Hughsonville members and New York State Police closed Route 9 in both directions as a landing zone was established on the roadway. The victim was transported by medevac helicopter to Westchester Medical Center.
The Hughsonville FD responded with Rescue 45-55, which was utilized at the scene, while Engine-Tanker 45-31 established the landing zone. Utility 45-62 and Flycar 45-67 assisted the New York State Police with traffic control. Town of Wappinger EMS responded with two paramedic ambulances.
Hughsonville District Captain William Beale said, “Our members train regularly to work seamlessly with our EMS and medevac partners. The efficiency in handling this critical incident was a testament to that training. A special thanks to the civilians who stopped and provided medical assistance.”
