HFD Responds to Motorcycle versus Vehicle with Entrapment

On Monday, September 2, 2024 at 9:59pm, the Hughsonville Fire Department and Town of Wappinger EMS were dispatched to a reported serious injury motorcycle accident on Route 9, in the area of Alpine Commons Shopping Plaza. The first chief officer arrived on scene within 2 minutes to find a motorcycle versus a car with an unconscious male in the roadway and a seriously injured female entrapped in the motor vehicle. Two additional advanced life support ambulances were requested to the scene. The HFD initially responded with Rescue 45-55, Engine 45-11. Firefighters arrived on scene within 5 minutes and simultaneously began extrication of the female and assisted EMS personnel with patient care on both seriously injured patients. A medevac helicopter was requested to the scene. The female was extricated from the vehicle within 16 minutes and the male was transported to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital with 2 HFD Firefighter-EMTs on board the ambulance. New Hackensack FD Engine 52-12 was requested to establish a landing zone at Alpine Commons Shopping Plaza. The medevac helicopter transported the female patient to Westchester Medical Center.

The HFD also responded with Brush Truck 45-62 and EMS Flycar 45-67 bringing additional personnel to the scene to assist with traffic control and scene support.

Route 9 northbound remained closed for over 3 hours as the New York State Police conducted an accident investigation. Any additional information can be obtained from the New York State Police.

Additional agencies assisting on scene included the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and Empress EMS. The HFD thanks all partner agencies for their quick response and assistance.
