On Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 3:05am, the Hughsonville Fire Department and Town of Wappinger EMS were dispatched for a reported motor vehicle crash into a building on Route 9D, just north of Old Hopewell Road. While units were enroute, New York State Police advised Dutchess 911 that the building was now on fire and the driver of the vehicle was unconscious.
The first Hughsonville FD units arrived on scene within 5 minutes of dispatch to find a minivan into a building with heavy fire from three sides of the building. FD personnel confirmed that the unconscious driver was removed from the vehicle by New York State Police, and EMS arrived on scene to start medical care.
Hughsonville FD personnel deployed three hoselines and a master stream to contain the fire and Central Hudson was contacted as a utility pole adjacent to the structure was snapped with power lines down. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. Firefighters remained on scene until 8am. Route 9D remained closed until early afternoon as utility crews worked to replace a utility pole and power lines.
Hughsonville Fire Chief Justin Jerrick commanded on scene operations. He said, “Thanks to the quick action of our personnel and mutual aid departments, this fire was contained without further incident.”
Due to the age of the structure and lack of structural integrity, the building had to be razed to complete firefighting operations.
The Hughsonville Fire Department was assisted on scene by the New Hackensack Fire Department, Village of Fishkill Fire Department, Wappingers Falls Fire Department, Town of Wappinger EMS, Mobile Life Support Services, New York State Police, Town of Wappinger Code Enforcement, Town of Wappinger Highway Department and the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response. |
