An Open Letter to
Assemblyman Joel Miller
In a "Valley View" piece in the Poughkeepsie Journal (April 22), you announced that because of, "...drastically high fire district taxes on Hudson Valley residents," you had introduced legislation (the Fire District Budget Empowerment Act [A.9762-A]) to rein in budgets created by, allegedly, "incestuously elected commissioners."

The average member of the "Hudson Valley" public probably hadn't thought of their fire commissioners as the product of some bizarre "incestuous" in-breeding behavior, rather than being selected by the open, annual, public elections, as required by law. Actually, they should find the motivation behind your statements very troubling since you spouted the same type of false and uninformed drivel to Terrence Michos in mid-2011, in order to sow distrust where none had previously exsited.
